British Overseas Territories & Dependents
After World War II ended the "British Empire" was gradually dismantled to just fourteen British Overseas Territories, still held by the United Kingdom today. Although they do not form part of the United Kingdom itself, fall under its jurisdiction. They are the remnants from the Empire that have not acquired independence or have voted to remain British territories. The three Crown Dependencies are British possessions of the Crown, as opposed to overseas territories of the United Kingdom. The Crown Dependencies, together with the United Kingdom, are collectively known as the "British Isles". |
